fribidi2 support has been added to mapserver 5.2 that allows RTL rendering of UTF8 labels with shaping support for Arabic and Hebrew. You HAVE to use fribidi-0.19.1.tar.gz or later for get this support. http://fribidi.org/download/ http://fribidi.org/download/fribidi-0.19.1.tar.gz Please include support for this in MS4W releases.
Jeff, I have placed the fibidi library that I used to test the Arabic characters support: http://www2.dmsolutions.ca/tmp/assefa/fribidi-0.19.1.zip The zip contains the src code + the built objects (.lib and .dll). It should work with the current settings of nmake.opt in mapserver5.2.0 After the build mapserv.exe -v should advertise: SUPPORTS=FRIBIDI
I have added fribidi2 into ms4w-2.2.8-beta, which if you want to try is available at: http://dl.maptools.org/dl/ms4w/
- fribidi2 support added to MS4W 2.2.8, which is uploading now and will be visible shortly
